Suikaen Takayama Handcrafted Chasen

Handcrafted by Suikaen (翠華園・谷村彌三郎) in Takayama, Nara — the birthplace of the Japanese chasen, where chasen-making has a history of around 500 years.

Produced in accordance with the standards of the Nara Takayama Chasen Producers Cooperative「奈良県高山茶筌生産協同組合」, representing the exceptional quality and craftsmanship for which authentic Takayama chasen are renowned.

Each chasen is carefully made by hand using traditional Takayama techniques. The bamboo is split into incredibly fine tines, then carefully shaved, refined, woven and shaped by skilled artisans.

The fine and flexible tines move smoothly through the matcha, making it easy to create a soft, even foam. You can really feel the difference in the lightness and control while whisking.
